Happy Tuesday, friends! I thought I'd talk about the art of style: finding what yours is, knowing what looks best on your frame, and some beauty products that I love. If this isn't for you, I'll see you back here tomorrow. (Bill, I'm talking to you!) I'll jump in with beauty products that I love.
I love lipstick! I've been a sucker for a bold lip my entire life, and though I go through phases of colors I wear, for now I'm back to wearing hot pink. My favorite one right now is by Revlon; it's called Cherries in the Snow.
Here's a link to one on Amazon. I usually tone it down a little with a lighter neutral color; I'm wearing that combination in the photo above.
I have a very simple nighttime skin regimen: I use coconut oil to remove my makeup, sometimes I use this toner you see pictured above, and I moisturize with Cerave twice a day; sometimes I add vitamin C serum and collagen to the moisturizer. After I do that in the morning, I start on makeup, beginning with this glotion you see below.
I love this stuff! It's not foundation, but more a tinted moisturizer. I'll add SPF to it eventually for more protection, but this is probably my sixth tube of it since I started using it months ago.
Here's a link. The rest of my makeup is minimal: neutral shadow, a tiny smudge of eyeliner, brow gel, blush, transluscent powder to set it all, and mascara.

I love to be comfy while I'm at home; this was what I wore on Saturday while I was home all day. I don't really have pajamas that I wear at home because people are in and out of my house so much, so I always wear leggings and a t-shirt or sweatshirt. Even though I was going stir crazy by that night, it did feel good to stay home and get caught up on things like washing my bedding, and getting to go without makeup all day. Isn't my shirt cute? I bought it last year, but I forgot about it and just found it again. I made a cut to modify the neck that felt constricting, and now I love it! Can someone tell me how to make the words read right from an iPhone picture?? Tanya? Joanne? Marilyn? I feel like we talked about this last year in Nashville when we took that picture in front of Draper James.
Part of my personal style is that I pile on the jewelry. I love a good bracelet stack, layering necklaces, and fun (big) earrings. I love wearing my three pairs of earrings everyday, too, and think it adds a little something to my own style and outfit. Are you like this with jewelry?
This picture doesn't have anything to do with what I'm talking about, but I liked showing my tattoo off that day. This is the one I got last year when Dad died...it's his writing, and it says, "I love you, Daddy." I love the visual reminder of Dad's writing, but I also love its double meaning; now that my earthly dad has passed away, God is my Dad, and I am His daughter. Thanks to Tara-Leigh Cobble from The Bible Recap, when I close my prayers, I tell Him that I love Him too. He shows me His love in a million little ways each and everyday. I'm so thankful for Him! I wouldn't be able to do life without Him.
I'm short, so I enjoy wearing cropped pants. I think it's important to know yourself and what looks best on your frame. I'm not skinny, so you'll never see me dress as if I am. I'm not being self deprecating; I'm just speaking truth. I feel good about the way that I look, and even though I'm still losing weight, I'm not doing it for any other person than myself. I don't want to be a certain size or weight, I just want to feel good and confident in my skin. But truthfully, I already feel that way. I think confidence is one of the most important things we can put on each day, along with a smile, and a kind spirit.
My friend Melanie taught me to love V necks; they elongate your torso and are the most universally flattering neckline that you can wear. And how fun is it to wear a necklace right there in that little V?
I'm in my leggings-as-pants phase. I don't always wear them as pants, but when I do, I just make sure everything is covered. I think that women over a certain age should make sure all the things are covered when wearing leggings, regardless of size! I know, I know, I'm very opinionated. 🤣Also, when I wear leggings, I usually wear something loose on top since the leggings are fitted. I do the opposite when I wear something loose on the bottom by wearing something fitted on top.
I think it's good to know your favorite color and to rock wearing it as much as you can! I'm having a thing with pink right now, any and every shade; I literally can't get enough of the color pink. I also love wearing wide legged pants and think they're more flattering than people realize. Have you tried these yet? I have a pair of the Halara wide legged jeans that I bought last fall, but I can't wear them anymore since I've lost weight. I feel like I might try to sell them on Facebook marketplace, because I spent $60 on them! I'd love to get half that back. The pants pictured above this are from J. Jill; I have this pair and a taupe pair that I literally wear nonstop.
And of course I painted my front door hot pink!
There's not a formula to go by, as far as personal style, but the advice that I would give is to use the internet and social media as inspiration. My thing with dressing is that I have always needed to be comfortable and have never been willing to sacrifice my comfort for style. I discovered that I can do both!
Know your colors, figure out your style, and observe what the styles are regarding both clothing and makeup. Use social media and Pinterest to see what the trends and styles are! Regarding makeup, I used to wear dark brown eye shadow all the time, because it was the thing to do until it wasn't. Now I wear neutral makeup, and I go heavy with the blush and bronzer to give my skin color. People tell me that my skin looks glowy, but it's because of the L'Oreal glotion and the blush that I use. It needs to show up, so I always recommend going heavier than you think you need, and then rubbing some of it off with tissue or cloth.
What would you consider your style to be? I'd love to hear from you! Thanks for reading my blog today, friends. Love to all!

I like your style- it's perfect for you. Obviously no two person's style is alike. One thing I have tried to do in the past is emulate someone else's. While I think inspo is a good thing, ultimately, we all have our own unique features and preferences so products are going to work and look differently for different people. I'm glad you found a style that you like- you look great! I have preferences for products that I love, too. I think your friend's comments about v-necks are correct. However, most that I see, the v veers too far down on the neck and you end up seeing more of the chest than is modest. Where did you get your small v tee?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I've tried to do that as well, and it never worked for me. I started talking to my friend who is a stylist for people and owns her own boutique now, and I paid attention to what people complimented me on. Social media and Pinterest are fun to use to get ideas, at least for me. I follow people who have my body type on Instagram, because I know that if it looks good on them, chances are it'll look good on me. That small V shirt came from Marshall's! As for the V's that are too plunging, I wear either a sports bra and/or a camisole underneath, so if something is seen, it's that.
DeleteFun post and you have great style! About 15 years ago, I use to watch "What Not to Wear" on TLC and it was always fun to see someone get a fashion/hair/makeup makeover. I haven't had my colors professionally done, but I know a few colors that aren't quite my best. Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I loved that show and watched it all the time. I would love to have my colors done, but I know pretty well now what to wear and what not to wear with my skin tone. I hope you have a great day! xoxo
DeleteI think you are really coming into your own with your style! Maybe it hasn't changed since the divorce, but I love everything you are wearing. I also do the big on top, fitted on bottom trick. I like to slightly tuck a shirt if wearing a wide leg to give myself a bit of a waist. I love accessories! I have pared down to things I really truly love. I wore pretty much the exact black leggings, blue and white striped, and sneakers over the break and plan to wear it to school this week because it will be colder. I dress for myself. I am happy in pinks and yellows! I am totally getting that Cherries in the Snow. It's gorgeous! I don't like my new coconut oil. I had the one you have and liked it much better. It was more melty. I also use the toner and the cerave. I am trying to lighten some of my dark spots, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think I am as well, even if it's similar. I know the more weight I lose, the more I want to dress in things that are a little more fitted. That's funny that you wore and are wearing that same outfit this week; it's one of my go-to outfits, and my button downs are thanks to you! The three I have are all from Old Navy. I still love them! I've had bad coconut oil, too...I wonder if you melted it all and let it harden again if it would change that? How are you lightening your dark spots?
DeleteYou look fantastic and I am obsessed with tinted moisturizer with a glow- not sure what we did before that was invented ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I agree about the moisturizer with a glow. Right??!
DeleteI like a v neck shirt as well. I am more of a classic style person. Leggings with a denim shirt. Jeans with a white button up shirt. Jen
ReplyDeleteThat's a great style!
DeleteCropped and Capri pants, jeans are the best and stylish. So much better than the abominations known as yoga pants, leggings and skinny ripped jeans...yuck.
ReplyDeleteWe can agree to disagree, because there are so many pants options these days. Capri pants are pants that I can't stand, but I love the cropped ones. What you think is yuck is someone else's favorite thing (it's me that I'm talking about), so why don't you watch your words and try to be a little kinder?
DeleteAs I gained weight, my style was leggings and long, loose tops. T-shirts don't look good on me (or didn't - I may try again as I lose weight) so I only wore them at home. Now that I'm losing weight, I realize I looked pretty sloppy before (the bigger the sweatshirt, the better - or so I thought). I would like to have my colors done but I do know a couple I get complimented on, also - LOVED What Not to Wear and saw recently that Clinton and Stacey have a new show on Amazon Prime that starts April 27. I can't remember the name of it but I can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteI totally get that! I've looked back and thought the same thing about me wearing something that was too big; though I still love loose and flowy, I am more careful now because I don't want to look bigger. As I'm losing weight, the more that changes! I didn't know they had a new show coming out! That's great, I loved them!
DeletePretty sure if you just flip the picture in editing it will turns the words the "right" way. I'm not willing to sacrifice comfort for style either (well, maybe for a short date night out or a bridal shower or something like that I'll wear shoes that aren't 100% comfortable).
ReplyDeleteI looked for that feature and couldn't find it. I wonder if it's because it's a picture that I don't recognize. I'll try that, thank you! I love that we have that in common; it's why I've never worn actual heels, because they hurt too bad. I've been like this since I was a teenager! I complained because I had to wear white heels for my high school graduation; Mom found me a pair that were more comfortable than any other ones I'd tried, though.
