Happy bonus blog post day! I'm joining in with Joyce today for the weekly Hodgepodge. I'll jump right in!
1. What do you love most about March? I love the promise of spring! I've always thought of this time of year as my least favorite season, but I feel so different about it this year. I love that spring represents hope and the promise of new life; more than ever before, I am ready to see green out my windows at home. I'm ready for flowers, warm nights, alfresco dining, lighter and brighter clothes, longer nights, grilling out, finding concerts to attend (I've already got plans to see go to an outdoors one in June!), and planning fun things to stay cool. I do realize that not all of this is coming in March, but this is the month that ushers it all in, and I am beyond excited for some new life, in many different ways.
2. Did you know March was National Celery Month? Do you like celery? What's something you like to make (or order out) that calls for celery? I did not realize that this was a month that celebrates celery; I suppose at this time, that nothing surprises me in life. I do love celery, but I rarely buy it because I don't eat it that often by itself or in recipes. I like it in tuna salad and in the dressing that my mom makes during the holidays. I have made it as well, but it's been a long time.
3. Spotify is the soundtrack of my life right now. This shouldn't be surprising; I have music on nearly 24/7, and all different kinds. Right now I'm loving the newer country music, even though I haven't listened to any of that in years. I also have worship music on a lot in the mornings and sometimes at night before I go to bed. I'm not watching anything earth shattering right now, so music has kind of taken over. I need to be reading more, but I've not been lately. I don't know that I even finished one book in February! I had a very busy month, obviously, and was gone a lot from home.
4. Share a favorite motivational quote for overcoming challenges. I love this quote below by C.S. Lewis.
Now that I'm nine months into this new life that I have, I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and I think of this quote often. I love it and am embracing all of the things that come with this phase in my life!
5. The Hodgepodge lands on Ash Wednesday this year. Do you participate in Lent in some way? If so, tell us more. I don't really participate in Lent; I don't have a reason why, except for the fact that it's not anything that I grew up doing in the church I was raised in. I will never forget my son Graham attending a youth service on a Wednesday night with a friend one time, and him coming home with the mark on his forehead. He'd forgotten it was there when I asked him what in the world was on his face, because it had gotten smudged and just looked like dirt at that point.
6. Insert your own random thought here. As always, I'm leaving you with a song that I love right now.
This is a new song I just found this week; it's One More Day by Sons of Sunday, but you'll recognize some of the Elevation Worship singers if you're familiar with them.
This is my second blog post of the day, so if you missed out on the Currently link party under this post, keep reading! Thanks for reading here today, friends. Love to all!
I love that CS Lewis quote! I used it when I made a photo album for Alyssa last year with her senior photos. I put a different quote that I liked and thought were appropriate for a young person starting a new chapter on each page with photos of her that I loved. I don't participate in Lent either. Though church services leading up to Easter certainly focus on preparing our hearts during the season to appreciate anew what Christ did for us. Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteThat was a great idea for her Alyssa's gift last year! I love the thought of what Lent is and what it does in preparation of what's to come, but I've just never attended a church that participated in it before. I feel like it's kind of the thing to do now thanks to social media, and I'm always intrigued by it.
DeleteShoot - I missed that it was a Currently - I'm doing well just to post these days, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about this month. I am ready to come out of the winter funk. It's been a hard winter and I'm still grieving and will continue to, but I have the fresh hope of a new second act since I made my retirement decision.
I am so excited and happy that you are in this state of mind. There is no way you could have imagined it 9 months ago.
No worries, friend. You're doing great just posting anything at all. I love this month because of what you said- it feels fresh and new! I hope you feel that more than ever this year. Thank you for that! There is no way I would have ever imagined my current life. I'm so glad to be where I am today as opposed to where I started.
DeleteI am ready for spring too. It sounds like you have some great plans.
ReplyDeleteI have just started getting into country music too, there's more and more being played on the radio so I am taking notice.
Yes! I am sure you are! Your winters seem a bit more brutal than ours. That's funny that you're also taking notice of country music more!
DeleteHi, I liked your quote.
ReplyDeleteI usually struggle with March. This morning I woke to 10 inches of snow and wind. A true blizzard!
Carla
Hello! Thank you! Oh, wow. March is crazy oftentimes, regarding the weather. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment today!
DeleteI love C.S. Lewis writings and you picked a good quote. I think I've read more this month somehow, with the kids here we don't have the tv on very much so reading it is. I do love the promise of spring...I wish it came with less pollen : ) Have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I loved the prompts today. I wish I could say that I've read more; I've got to get back into the habit. Less pollen is always better than more!
DeleteI am giddy about spring arriving too :)
ReplyDeleteI know you are! I feel the same.
DeleteLove your quote. People so often live in the past and it ruins both present and future.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's so true.
DeleteBeautiful post
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteSpring is such a hopeful season of new beginnings!
ReplyDeleteRachel loves celery but I don't like it plain. We use it a lot in soups.
