Happy Tuesday, friends. I had another blog post planned for today, and before I could schedule it to post yesterday, I accidentally deleted the entire thing. I'm rolling my eyes at myself, so it's this kind of post instead for today. A friend recently asked me what makes me smile, and I thought it was a great thing to expound upon here today. I'm switching out the words "what makes me smile" to talk about what brings me joy. You know a lot of these, but hopefully I'll add some different things.
Here's a list of things that bring me joy.
- early mornings
- my sons and seeing/talking to them
- the first cup of coffee
- this blog community
- talking to someone randomly when they call (Marilyn randomly called me last night and I loved that!)
- talking to people at work
- conversing with my precious friends who have special needs
- elderly people (there was someone I spoke to at work yesterday who is a friend that seems to be coming down with dementia)
- ambient lighting (twinkling lights)
- dogs
- my Mom; she comments on everything I share on social media
- seeing Andrea for dinner last night
- putting outfits together everyday
- painted nails
- taking care of my skin
I'm including these pictures, because if you take care of your skin, your makeup will always be flawless. Here are my secrets to having good skin:
- wash your face every single night (I use coconut oil to melt my makeup off; I scoop out a spoonful, melt it in my hands, and rub it all over my face. Then it wipes right off with a washcloth.)
- moisturize daily (I use Cerave moisturizing cream twice a day since I have dry skin.)
- know your skin type and do what works best if you're dry or oily
- I use oils and serums with my Cerave in the mornings (collagen and vitamin C oils are supposed to be anti-aging)
- protect your face from the sun all year long (I use sunscreen all year on my face)
- protect your lips from being dry by keeping them coated with something all day (if I don't have lipstick on, I have Vaseline on)
- don't touch your face at all in the day; if you do, wash your hands first
- if you have a blemish pop up, do NOT pick at it, just leave it alone
This was fun for me to think about and write; hopefully it inspires you to look for the things that bring joy, and to start taking skincare seriously. The older we get, the worse it'll get. I'm so thankful that I have Mom's and Dad's good genes to help me out!
What's something that brings joy to your life? What about skincare...do you have something you love that I need to know about? I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for reading my blog today, friends!
Just a reminder about Saturday February 22; it's the last Saturday, so it'll be time for Share 4 Somethings. We'll be talking about some things we loved, some things we learned, some things that went well, and some things we let go of. Here's an image if you'd like to use it, but I hope you plan to join me for that! I'll see you here tomorrow, friends. Thanks for reading; love to all!

I'm sorry you had an entire post written that you lost! That happened to me once and I was so disappointed; I don't write blog posts quickly so it was very frustrating to have lost something that I worked on for a while. I love your joyful list and agree with everything where applicable. (eg. my mom isn't alive and I don't paint my nails...). Enjoyed reading your skincare routine as well. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI always feel like this is when age and technology don't play well. 🤣 It had something to do with AI helping me write it; I inadvertently clicked a button that deleted the entire thing. I didn't even try again last night, I just did this one really quickly this morning. Thanks for the kind words, my friend! xoxo
DeleteFour things that bring me joy are: serving the Lord and knowing that He loves me, and my family (especially my husband), my dog and a good book. I enjoyed reading your list. I hope you have a joy full day!
ReplyDeleteYes to all of those! Thanks, friend!
DeleteWhat brings you joy made me smile, I found me nodding along to them.
ReplyDeleteI have only just started a real skincare routine and my face is really benefitting from it and it's something which brings me joy, those few minutes to myself on a morning and evening, doing something for myself makes me happy.
Aw, thanks, Kim! I love that you're doing a skincare routine now. It's one of the best things we can do for ourselves! Even when I don't want to take the time to do it because I'm tired, it's always worth it in the end.
DeleteThese are great tips, and I've gotten a little lazy about skincare lately. With the dry air, my normally dry skin is even worse, so these are timely reminders for me!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bethany! I am the same way, and am dry from head to toe. Another part of my skincare routine is that I drench myself in lotion every morning before I get dressed. It helps tremendously! I'm glad you found this motivating. I hope you're having a great week!
DeleteI had no idea that coconut oil would remove your makeup. Thanks for a good tip. I'm going to try that even tonight!:)
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing! I saw influencers using Colleen Rothschild makeup remover that melts away makeup, but I discovered that coconut oil does the same. It's perfectly gentle for your eyes, too!
DeleteYou have beautiful skin so your routine is working beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThanks, friend! I do like to take the time to do this each night.
DeleteThat's why I missed your post! My Dad taught me that if you have a pimple pop up, to put the hottest wash cloth you can stand on it. Don't rub or anything. It really works! I need to up my skincare game. I need to realize I can do the routine at 7. Waiting til 9:30 results in me being too tired!
ReplyDeleteThat's why! I was way too tired to write it all over again, so I gave up for the night. I've never heard that trick!
