weekending

Happy Monday, friends! I hope you had a good weekend! I'm linking up with Holly and Sarah for today's post. Did you do anything fun this weekend? I had an epic weekend! I'll share about Thursday night, Friday, and Sunday today, and will talk about my birthday tomorrow. Come back to read!

After working on Thursday, I came home to rest for just a bit before getting dressed again for my work Christmas party. I thought last year was fun, but this was the most fun one I've been to, to date. I rode with my friend Amy and her husband Joe, and the table I sat with was the most fun! We ate dinner together, played Christmas trivia, then it was over after two hours.

I wore one of my favorite tops, the one I treated myself with last year for my birthday. It's the Umgee brand that I love, and the color is one that I love. I wore Kate Spade earrings with it that I normally don't wear; they're the big square studs with multi-colored stones in them. Each year we go to a venue called Heartwood Hall for this night; it's a wedding and event venue, and it's hard to beat. I love that historical home! Our event was held in the barn, which was decorated beautifully, thanks to one of the ladies who works in the church office. This was such a fun night!

I was up early on Friday for a very busy day "off" from work. (I worked.) I started with errands for an event that I helped with Sunday night; after that I went to the church to set up for it so that I wouldn't have to do it the night of the event.

And because my license expired on my birthday, I went to renew mine that afternoon. Look at the difference in the pictures! I have definitely improved with lighter hair; that dark hair makes me cringe.

And since I passed by my dad's house on the way to and from doing that, I decided to stop by there and check on things...and then have a good cry. I missed him so tangibly on Friday, I guess because it was Friday and with my birthday right there. I could easily envision him standing on that front porch and waving at me while I drove down his driveway.

Thankfully I got a phone call right as I left his house and I was able to pull it together. I had plans that night with Marilyn! We met up for dinner, and then drove around to look at Christmas lights.

Do you ever go to Newk's? I love their soup! I also greatly appreciate that they always have seasonal cups; I like to bring them home with me and have quite a stash. They put out new ones every year!

It's hard to see in this picture above, but this was a neighborhood with lights hanging from trees. This is stunning to see in person!

And these last two were my favorites just because of the style of the home, particularly the one right above this. It's got that cottage feel to it, even though it's anything but!

It was such a fun night. I could drive around and do that for hours! Sunday was church, home to rest in between services, and then back to church for our annual Christmas program and reception after. I was in charge of making the apple cider to go with the cookies, so I was there until about 8:30 wrapping that up and getting everything put away again. How was your weekend? I'd love to hear from you! Thanks for reading my blog today, friends. Love to all!

Jenn 🖤

  2. Your outfit is so pretty! I think I remember that venue from your party last year- the building is so striking that I remember it. Speaking of striking- those homes are beautiful. It sounds like your birthday went so well- looking forward to hearing about it :).

    1. Thank you! Yes, we had it at the same place last year, but I didn't get any other pictures this year. Aren't those beautiful?!

  3. I love the color of your top too! You look different with dark hair. I am naturally a pretty dark brunette but lighten mine now too. I tried once to go back to my original color but as I've gotten older I feel like I need the lightness around my face. Happy birthday to you! Glad you had a fun weekend!

    1. Thank you! I know; it doesn't even look like me, honestly. I don't think I could ever do dark hair again. I will keep it like this until I'm old and white, and then I'll just let it go white. That's a long way off, though. 🤣 Thanks, friend!

  4. I had those earrings and lost one! I wore them so much. Maybe I can find them on sale. I love that top! Oh man, I have to wait to hear about Saturday! Ha! I am sorry you were missing your Dad so much but at the same time I am glad you went there and had that cry. I think it helps!
What a fun Th, Fri, and Sunday!

    1. I love them, and I don't know why I don't wear them more. I always kind of forget about them, I guess, so I need to keep them where I see them more often. I know, I know! I was writing this post last night and I was so tired that I decided to wait. I also think it was good to go to my dad's house and just cry; that always feels like therapy in and of itself.

    1. You should go with your friend! It's a fun and festive thing to do that's different. I was surprised by how quickly I was in and out! I think it's best to go mid-day. Everyone goes early all the time!

  6. Your festive top has just the right amount of sparkle! I’m sure your Dad was looking over you and made sure that phone call came at the right time. Our youngest granddaughters were out of town, so we took our 3 year old grandson to a holiday event at an outdoor museum venue. Seeing the world through the eyes of a child is magical! Have a good week friend !

    1. Thank you! It's definitely an over-the-top shirt, but I love it so much! I think it's my favorite item of clothing that I own. That sounds like so much fun! You are so right about seeing things through the eyes of children. They're so pure and have such immense joy! That is something we all need to rub off on us more, don't you think?

  7. It sounds like you had a really nice weekend. We did too. We had our church Christmas luncheon after morning service and then we were free the rest of the day, so we had a nap and then picked up his mom to see some lights, just like you guys. So fun! And we plan to go see some more later this week. I love you with the lighter colored hair also. Hope you week is great!

    1. I did! I'm glad to hear yours was nice as well. I love that you have a Christmas luncheon after the morning service! That sounds so lovely, and I am sure it's some of the very best food ever. Do you do potluck style? I used to love when my church did that kind of thing! What a perfect festive weekend between that and the Christmas lights. I'm going to do that again soon as well, even if it's on my own!

  9. I love that top and the highlights in your hair! I think it's nice when we can look back on pictures and see an improvement instead of the opposite. There are some pictures of me from about 5 years ago that I just don't like. I feel like I look older then than I do now...crazy! Hope you have a good week!

    1. Thank you! Isn't that interesting how that happens? That's how I feel looking at the pictures of the two drivers' licenses that are a decade apart. I look so much older then than the current one! Thanks, friend! ❤️
