weekending

Happy Monday, friends! I hope you had a good weekend! Mine was super laid back and absolutely wonderful as I concentrated on my home and putting it back together after taking the Christmas down. I'm linking up with Holly and Sarah for today's post.

I'm picking up from Thursday; I woke up early and enjoyed one last morning with the Christmas tree being up before taking it down the next day. It was up the next morning, but I didn't sit to enjoy it on the other mornings like I'd been doing. I am always sad when I take the Christmas down, but I'm also always ready for it all to be put away after the day of Christmas. I love this season so much, but the minute the day is over, I'm done with it for the next ten months. I read a book and watched a show on Netflix while I did blog stuff on my laptop; it felt good to be at home and to have a leisurely morning.

I ended up getting dressed and going to get my nails done eventually, because the red was on my last nerve. I had a gift certificate from my birthday, so because of that I decided to give the chrome a try for the first time! It's the perfect time to do that kind of thing and all the money I was out was $5. For that reason I won't do the chrome again, because I can't justify the extra money that it costs. On that note, I'm contemplating changing up how I do my nails and am considering purchasing something to do them at home. I have a friend who does this with gel polish and hers always look great; I am starting to research some of the best at home nail kits. I think it sounds nice to not have to schedule a whole outing just to get my nails done, and it will be nice to be able to change the colors more often than once a month, which is what I do just to save money.

I've loved having all the baby dogs at my house this week! I know it's nice to have a break from them, and that Graham has enjoyed having a clean house for more than a day or two; he'll come and get them today at some point. I insisted that I didn't mind them staying longer when his weekend started filling up with plans. I know sweet Crash loves being here, and it makes me feel better about sending him to live with Graham.

See? He also loves living with Graham, don't get me wrong. He is living his best life going back and forth between us! He just loves being with people in general and is such a happy buddy.

That night all my guys came over for dinner. Noah's roommate ate dinner with us, and Marilyn came as well! I made twelve sirloin steaks, tater tots, air fried broccoli, and garlic bread made from my sourdough. It was delicious!

The guys all eventually left, and Marilyn and I hung out there for a while before going to check out the after Christmas sales at Target. It was a fun night, and I'm glad she joined us for dinner.

I spent Friday between my house and work. I got started with the process of undecorating the house, then I paused to work for a couple of hours, then I came home and got back to undoing Christmas. That afternoon, Jonah and Noah helped me get it all packed away and put back upstairs. I'm so grateful they were both here to help! My back is almost one hundred percent better now, but I still can't do the stairs too many times in a row, and I can't do a ton of stretching and reaching above my head. Here's the house put back to normal.

I love this light tree that Mom and Bill got me for Christmas!

My mantel and hearth that took me a minute to get it to where I liked it again.

I cleared the counter tops of clutter, and I'm loving how it turned out.

This is a little bench that becomes a catch-all for everything. I spent some time Saturday morning cleaning out mail, and reclaimed the space to make it mine. The mail gets put in the baskets, but for now, it's clean again. I sent mail with Jonah when he and his brothers joined their dad at the paternal grandparents' house for their Christmas celebration on Saturday. (Everything about that sentence was weird to say.)

I still plan on using this mug for my coffee, because it's adorable.

I cleaned up this desk area and rearranged some of the things to make it more visibly appealing to me. Something that I love to use as decor in my home are the things that I love; I love coffee, books, writing, and touches of green throughout. Because of that, I like to prominently display those items.

Here's a close up of the tree that Mom and Bill got for me. I love it so much! Here's a link to the one I picked. Mine is the four foot tall one. It was very easy to assemble!

Have I mentioned that I love quirky home decor items? I consider this owl just that, but I love him.

I pulled out some of my pink books and decided to use them more this time around.

Ignore how stuffed this shelf is; I have plans to start majorly decluttering this week. I got a big start on Saturday and plan to do more while I'm off this week before I go back to work on Thursday. Wish me luck!

I've decided that in my next home, I want a coffee table so I can display my coffee table books.

Chloe plays with her toys all over the house; I went around and collected them Saturday afternoon and put them all right there together for her. She loved having several in one spot!

I browsed Pinterest to look for future smaller home inspiration (I'm going to go with a cottage style), and I found this image for my phone's wallpaper and lock screen. I was back at church on Sunday and home for the rest of the afternoon. I was going to leave, but I decided to stay in for the night. I will be around this week, so come back and visit! Because the first Wednesday is a holiday this week, I'm postponing Currently until the following Wednesday, the 8th. We'll talk about what we're currently loving, doing to stay warm, resolving, organizing, and wearing.

Here's a new graphic for you to use if you want! If not, no worries. I'll see you back here tomorrow, friends. Thanks for being here today to read; love to all!

  1. You got a lot done and I like how you shared your ruminations about your home and some of your future plans. (The nosy in me likes to know All The Things, lol.) Your home looks so nice put back together and I am glad that you had help getting it all done :).

    1. It was a great week/weekend. Thanks for that! It'll be a while still, I'm assuming, but I am also excited for that and to see where it is I'll end up.

  3. I need to learn to make a good steak! So nice that Marilyn came! And late night Target shopping is so fun!
Your house looks amazing and fresh and I have been eyeing one of the Amazon trees. But, I have an Eddie Otis so for now I better stick with the minimal stuff I've got. We had to put the tree behind our end table. You have me motivated to take mine down, but I plan to get out my snowman mantel stuff and keep the twinkle lights.
I hope you are doing well and I am so happy you are reading again! That, in itself, is wonderful for you I think! Oh, I got the Elf lip oil and a new red liner. I had to get NYX because Elf had no red at Ulta. I ate breakfast with my friend and she pulled out her Elf lip oil!

    1. I can share with you what I do; it's easy if you have a cast iron skillet! It's so good, and literally takes less than ten minutes to make four. (They're small.) Thanks for that, friend! I love the tree, but I think you're smart to wait on EO to get a little older before the investment. I am so happy to be reading again!! I agree wholeheartedly. I'm glad you got some liner and lip oil! Everyone wears it now!

  4. I love the tree! One reason I dislike taking Christmas down is I miss the soft twinkle lights. I also love the mug and say use it if it makes you happy. My decorations are still up but I suppose I'll begin tackling the un-decorating later this week. For today I'm happy to still be a little bit lazy lol. Wishing you all the best in the new year! Hoping you find the perfect home that suits you and your style and I'm sure you'll make it warm and cozy.

    1. Thank you! I always miss that too, so when I saw this on Amazon, I knew it would be the perfect gift. A friend of mine has one, which is where I first saw it several months ago. Undoing it all is always a little bittersweet and I dread the starting of it all since it's always worse before it gets better. Thank you for that, my friend!

  5. I love the look of your mantle! What a good feeling to do some cleaning and organizing to how you like things. Thanks again for having me over to be with you and your boys. I enjoyed it. Have a good morning!

    1. Thank you! It took me a minute to make it look acceptable to me, but now I love it. I'm so glad you came over and got to experience the dynamic of all of them at once! They're a lot. 🤣 You do the same, my friend!

  8. Hello my friend :) Your house looks great! And I love that you're thinking about a small cottage for the future! That is so exciting! I am dreading taking the tree down because I'm feeling lazy right now :) Plus I will miss all the pretty lights! I love your tree with the lights and that is certainly a possibility for my house in the future. I hope you made it through the holiday ok. I've been busy with family and am just now catching up on everyone's blog. Have a great start to the new year and a wonderful week.

    1. Hello! Thank you for that! I'm also excited for all the possibility that this year will bring me. I'm looking forward to gaining independence and making a space my own. I always feel the same way about my tree, even though I'm also ready for less clutter by the day after Christmas. I think you should consider a tree like this! It's so fun and whimsical, and it's a great way to add some twinkling lights to a space. I was very pleasantly surprised by how great Christmas was. Christmas Eve was hard, but the day of was better than I'd hoped it would be. I hope you had a wonderful holiday season!

  9. Your house looks lovely. I enjoy decorating with books, too, and the little signs like your Let It Snow. There are so many cute ones at Hobby Lobby and Michaels. Thanks for the new Currently graphic - see you in 2025!

    1. Thanks, Pamela! I think it's a great way to use something we love. I haven't been to Hobby Lobby, but I'd like to go soon to pick out a new door hanger. I have a Christmas gift card to use that I'd love to put to good use! I'm glad you'll be joining us again for Currently in 2025!

    2. Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays as a matter of company policy, which stems from the Christian faith of its owners (like Chick-fil-A). It's an amazing store and they have year-round sale prices on many items. I hope you enjoy your visit there.

  10. I always look forward to your posts for so many reasons. I planned to leave Christmas up longer this year to cheer me up as I face surgery to remove the cancer in my lung, but plans changed as they so often do. My daughter will turn 40 on New Year's Day, so my daughter in law and I are making a lasagna dinner - her husband will somehow get here so it can be a surprise. I wimped out and bought a red velvet cake (with cream cheese icing, of course) - it's her favorite. Now, I'm off to take down the Santas and the tree - I'll leave the snowmen and other "winter-y" decorations out a bit longer. Wishing you nothing but happy in the new year!

    1. Thank you, Julie! That's always such a nice sentiment to hear from someone. I stopped to pray for you as soon as I read your comment today. I am praying that the surgery is successful, and that the Lord Himself guides the hands of your surgeon. I think your lasagna dinner sounds delicious! It's fun to leave out wintry decorations after Christmas; I usually do the same. I pray and hope the same for you, my friend! I'll be praying for you tomorrow!

    2. Thank you so much for your prayers....I'm learning I can do hard things (at 67!) and I am sure most of it is due to the prayer warriors in my life!

  11. We took our Christmas decorations down over the weekend. It looks so bare in here now.
Ohh! Your nails are so pretty! I would love to pay to get them done but they're so expensive. I do mine, myself with a gel kit and I spent about £30 on the kit and polishes and nothing since apart from time. It takes me at least an hour to do mine.
How lovely to have all the dogs with you and I am glad your back is feeling a bit better.

    1. It always takes a bit to adjust to that! Thank you for that. I love having them done, but it'll be nice to save the money, so I'm excited to find an at home nail kit. I have my eye on one that I found and am excited to order it and give it a try. I feel like an hour is pretty normal; it used to take me about that long to do regular polish, including the drying process afterward. I have LOVED having all the baby dogs!

  13. I have 2 of those "pine trees". Mine are just about 2 feet tall and right now they are on my piano. I bought them as Christmas decorations, but I'm thinking I'm going to use them year round. I love all your books and the mantle decorations! Have a great day!

  15. The way you use books in your decorating makes me smile. Love that you pulled out pink books to display. Allof your organizing and tidying looks great. We are half-way through spring cleaning (in fall and now winter). The rooms that are clean feel so good to be in. But the toughest rooms are yet to come...our bedroom and my loft.
That chrome purple nail color is fun. I hate spending the money on manicures and pedicures and have been using Sally Hansen gel polish at home instead. You don't need a UV lamp and it dries fairly quickly and lasts about 2 weeks. Best of all, you can easily remove it with acetone.

    1. Thank you! I think books are beautiful and fun. It feels good to use them as decor as well! I get how those rooms would feel wonderful. Happy cleaning/organizing to you! Imagine how great it'll be to get it all done. That's great to know about that polish; I may just try that instead. My only complaint with SH polishes is how wide the brush is; it makes for a messy manicure. Are the gel polishes different?
