Wednesday Hodgepodge

Happy Wednesday, friends! I'm linking up with Joyce for today's post. I'll jump right in!

1. When the Hodgepodge lands on September 11, I want to acknowledge that. Will you purposely pause to remember and pray for those who were affected by tragedy on this date in history? Share any thoughts or memories you would like about this day. This day always makes me sad! I think it's the day that so many of our lives changed, and I know for me, I realized that a terrorist attack is a very real reality. I always take the time to pray on this day for those who lost their loved ones.

I had two little ones at the time when this tragedy occurred, and was working in their mom's day out program at my church. Two days after this attack, we had a bomb threat at our church and spent hours outside with all the kiddos while bomb sniffing dogs and agents secured the church. (There was no bomb.)

2. Growing up, did you spend a lot of time with your grandparents? What's something you learned from a grandparent? I did see my grandparents fairly often! Every other week after church, we would have lunch with my dad's mom, and either we would visit my mom's mom, or she would come see us. I like to think that I take after both of my grandmothers! Both of them loved Jesus and the word of God.

3. What's your go-to breakfast? Every morning I have the same breakfast drink: a Premier brand protein shake, some coffee, and a splash of coconut flavored creamer. It's so good!

4. Tell us the story behind one of your favorite photos.

This is my current favorite photo, and it was taken at the VA cemetery following my dad's funeral on July 10th. This was taken approximately two weeks after my life forever changed, and it was right before I found out information that rocked my world. These sons of mine are my entire world! Aren't they handsome? Left to right are Jonah, Noah, Drew, and Graham.

5. This week Friday lands on the thirteenth. Are you superstitious in any way? Do you like scary movies, and if so, what is your favorite? I am not superstitious, but I have experience with how crazy those Fridays are! I've worked in two schools now, so I seriously know this to be true.

I'm keeping it short and sweet today, friends. Thanks for reading my blog! Love to all.

  1. Your boys are all very handsome. Do people comment to you that they look alike? In pictures, it seems like none of them favor each other very much so I was curious. With four, you´d think that maybe two of them would (my girls look nothing alike while Jacob and Abby favor each other- genetics is fascinating to me!). Have a great day!

    1. Thank you! People think that Drew and Noah favor each other, and Graham and Jonah are more similar to one another. It's that same grouping even with the way their voices sound and also in their personalities! The physical resemblance isn't there as much, but it is in other ways. It's fascinating to me too!

    1. Thank you so much! It's my favorite because of how much my life has changed and I've had to depend on them. I love that they can be trusted for that!

  3. That family photo is wonderful! Your boys are all very handsome. I'm not very superstitious but I definitely noticed those Fridays (and full moon days!) can be extra crazy in the schools.

  4. Love that picture. Today's topic was hard. 9/11 was such a horrible day. I remember coming home from school (no kids of my own yet) and watching the news the rest of the day and into the night. My Dad had been flying for the chemical company he worked for and had to drive home.

    1. Thank you! It was such a terrible day in history. The thing that I should have said and didn't is that I loved how our country came together across political lines to join together in the fight for freedom. It's never been like that in all the years since, and it may never again! I thought that was beautiful, though.

    1. Thank you! I didn't teach, but worked as an assistant at one time, and many years ago I was the lunchroom monitor for the students while they ate. I always saw how crazy they would all get on those full moon days, or on Friday the 13th!

  9. Even being over here in the UK September 11th, away from what was going on it still shocked everyone.
What a lovely photo of you and your boys, they sure are handsome.

    1. Right?? I think so too, especially considering the one who took it was the one I didn't want in the picture when someone offered to take one including him.

  11. I was the Director of a church preschool and kindergarten and I don't know if you'll remember this, but after 9/11, kind of early October of that year, there was a sniper in the Maryland-D.C. area just randomly shooting people. We were in Maryland. There seemed no rhyme or reason to the location or the victim. A couple happened at gas stations so everyone was afraid to pump gas, one was someone walking to school, it was all very frightening on top of 9/11. We couldn't let our students outside for recess for a solid month until they caught the two people responsible. It was such a tense time. Great picture! And yes, your boys are handsome : )

    1. What a horrific time! I had forgotten about that shooter until you mentioned it, but I do remember hearing about it on the news. I cannot imagine how scary that would have been! I'm glad they were eventually caught so that life could return (at least a little) to some semblance of normalcy.

Thank you! I sure think so.
