closet organization and how I set up mine to work best for me

Happy Wednesday, friend! Most of you will remember telling me that I needed to clean out my closet recently; well, the mood struck on Monday night after I showered, so I went with it and emptied my side of the closet in order to clean it out.

I'd placed an order from Shein a couple of weeks ago and when it came in on Monday, I knew I needed to clean out the closet to make room for them. Also, I like to go by the rule "bring one in, take one out". Two hours later, here are the results.

I like to use this area in the middle for my outfit for the next day. I don't always do this, but it's nice to have it all picked out (including jewelry) on Sunday morning, when I wake up at 4 something and go ahead and get dressed for the day.

I took this picture above to show you the color I have going on in my wardrobe right now! I love to see all the brightness.

I try to use every square inch, since we share the closet, and because we don't have a special type of organized shelving. I have one long rod, and Todd has the two shorter rods for his shirts on top, and pants on the bottom. He keeps his shoes under the bottom rod, and I keep mine under my side.

He uses command hooks for his uniform belt, tie, and uniform, after it's been washed and dried.

Here's the fabric of one of the dresses from my Shein order...

... and here it is in full length! I love it, and the length hits me right at my knees, even though it looks longer here. Here's a link to the one I purchased. This is my fourth Shein order, and each dress fit perfectly. I've washed and dried (for a few minutes) each item I've purchases, and the quality is holding up just fine! If you ever order from them, just pay attention to sizing and fabric. If you don't want something skin tight and if you have any curve at all, then you need to order from the curve section of the website. The last dresses I bought are 2x; I usually wear either an xl or a 1x, so I still sized up a little because most of the fabrics are a blend of rayon and polyester. If you're on the bustier side, I would not order from here, just FYI. This is my honest assessment. (As I found that Shein link, I ordered four more dresses, because I loved the ones that came on Monday!) I also recommend using the app to order because it's easier to search. I talked Mom through getting the app yesterday, and she placed her first order once I shared what I had learned.

Here's how I organized my closet: I started on the left with dresses (dark to light, longer to shorter), then nice blouses (from left to right, dark to light), then t-shirts in that same dark to light pattern, and ending with my pants. To the right of my pants are extra (grippy) hangers, then my winter pants, tops, and bulkier items on the far right. The dark to light creates a line of separation for my eyes, making it easier to plan for outfits.

How is your closet organized? I'll share about all of my recent purchases tomorrow in a bonus post. Stay tuned and see you then! Thanks for reading my blog, friends. Love to all!

    1. Thank you! It feels so great to have an organized space again. I still need to clean out some more, especially with the shoes that I no longer wear, but it's so much better than it was. xoxo

  2. I did one Shein order and while most of it fit it was tight in the bust and the next size up would have been big everywhere else. But the fabric was tragic. At first I thought it was lightweight and cooling but I wore it and was sweating. I get jealous when I see people get great stuff - pattern and style - but I think it’s not for me

    2. I figured that the first time I tried something on in my first order; I knew that if it fit me (and I'm smaller sized on top), then it wouldn't work on someone with a larger bust size. There's nothing like feeling constricted in clothing! I always appreciate knowing those things before I order. I'm shocked that I love the fabric so much! I stay hot, but for some reason, these dresses really keep me cool. Maybe it's the shapewear shorts I wear underneath?

  3. I try to get my clothes laid out the night before, or at least have an idea in my head of what I want it to be. I find my mornings go much smoother if I do that. I love the colors in that Shein dress! I've not had good luck with them at all.

    1. It really does help to save time and extra thinking in the morning! I decide on the week days what I'll wear as I'm doing my makeup first, but on Sunday it makes a huge difference. Thanks for that! I do think there's a trick to it, and I seem to have figured it out.

  5. That is such a cute dress from Shein! I haven't ordered from them, but I'm glad to hear you have had good experiences. I think I would just be nervous on the return process. My daughter has helped me organize my clothes by color schemes. I have tried to organize my closet this summer by outfits. However, by mid summer, I feel like it is all out of sorts again, so the organization just doesn't last long for me!

    1. Thanks, I love it so much! I see it becoming a favorite. That's nice that she helped you to do that in your closet! I feel the same; mine gets messy from season to season as time goes on. I have organize by types and colors, though, because I always have way more shirts than pants.

Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday, friends! I feel like shouting from the rooftop that Christmas is over, I survived (thrived at times, cried at others), and...
