Happy Tuesday, friends! I had another post scheduled for today, but I wasn't really feeling it, so I called an audible and came up with this one instead.
(Do you know what that phrase means? In the technical world, it's when someone makes a last minute, unexpected plan instead of following through with what was on the schedule or order of service. I'm a choir girl, what can I say? I've sung and worked through many "audible calling" in my life, and I bet you have too!)
I keep a note of blog ideas on my phone, so this is where I pulled this idea from today. I think this was originally inspired by a book that I read, though I can't remember which one it was. Here are some interesting things I've learned lately that I thought you may like to know. Here goes!
- Did you know that there are six people in the world who look like you? You have a 9% chance of meeting them someday.
- Did you know that smiling is the ultimate anti-depressant? So is walking, for that matter! Walking for ten to thirty minutes each day is valuable to your physical, emotional, and mental health.
- Did you know that it's good for you to sit in silence for ten minutes each day?
- Did you know that tea bags are a great way to absorb odors?
- Did you know that we should all be eating breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper?
- Did you know that you don't have to win every argument? Agreeing to disagree is much better for your health. Learn the art of letting go!
- Did you know that nobody is in charge of your happiness but you? Stop caring about the opinions of others! (I'm preaching to myself.)
- Did you know that it's good to frame every so-called disaster with the words, "In five years, will this matter?"
- Did you know that time heals everything? Grief is excluded in this, and that is a sign of love.
- Did you know that the father determines height, but Mom determines the weight?
- Did you know that right handed people tend to chew their food on the right side? I assume this is also true for lefties, and now that I'm writing this, I did chew my food on the left as I had dinner last night!
- Did you know that you can survive for weeks without eating, but you'll only live for eleven days with no sleep.
- Did you know that people who laugh a lot are healthier than those who don't?
- Did you know that laziness and inactivity kills as many people as smoking?
- Did you know that the human brain has the capacity to store five times the amount of information as Wikipedia?
- Did you know that potato chips cause more weight gain than any other food?
- Did you know that C.S. Lewis died on the same day as President John F. Kennedy?
- Did you know that chewing gum after meals reduces heartburn?
- Did you know that dogs can smell cancer, and that bees can detect bombs?
- Did you know that the longest word you can type with just your left hand is sweaterdresses?
- Did you know that there is a species of jellyfish that are immortal?
- Did you know that falling coconuts kill more people than sharks?
These are fun facts! I used to buy my youngest son books like this and it was so fun to learn all the things I didn't know. I think the one that surprised me the most is about C.S. Lewis dying on the same day as JFK. I never knew that!
ReplyDeleteThe one about the coconuts cracked me up :)
Very interesting ! I enjoyed reading them
ReplyDeleteThese are fascinating and fun facts to read for sure- thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYes - my boys used to love fact books/trivia like this.
ReplyDeleteI bet my students would like this list! And, I would also never be able to get them back on track! Ha!
Every Friday, I do a cultural note/interesting fact about the Spanish speaking world.
These were fun to read. I have seen lists like these in teacher´s classrooms. I can´t think of what I recently read on one of those lists. There was a girl who apparently looked JUST like me in college. I never saw here. And there is a poor student in 8th grade who, in 6th grade was one of my long term sub students, and ALL of the students said she looked like she was my daughter. I told one of my friends that knew the family and she said, ¨Yeah, I can see that. I can see how the kids say that.¨ I felt sooo bad for the girl. Who wants to look like the sub, lol??
ReplyDeleteDebbie, my boys used to like books like this as well, and so did I! We usually got them at a book fair when they were really young. I was shocked about C.S. Lewis dying on that day as well! I'd never heard that.
ReplyDeleteI thought they were, too, Jen! I'm glad you enjoyed reading this today.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Holly! I love stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteAmy, mine did too! You are right about how they would love this, but you'd lose them for sure. I love that you do that on Fridays to make it fun for them!
ReplyDeleteMaria, that's funny! About both stories, but especially about the student. I have heard something similar about me having a look alike, but I think it's mostly the hair that makes people think someone looks like me. There's a girl at church who is quite a bit younger than me, and an older lady always mistakes me for her. I never have the heart to correct her!
ReplyDeleteThese were really fun facts! I have a face that looks like a lot of other people I think! Anywhere I go, I run into people who ask if they know me from someplace else. It happens all the time, so I just tell them I have a face that looks like lots of other people. :) It's interesting!
ReplyDeleteLove your new blog header too!
ReplyDeleteTanya, I think so too! You made me laugh about how you have a face that looks like lots of others. I've heard someone else say the same thing. Thanks for that! I've been playing around on Canva a lot lately!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome. I just love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat list!
ReplyDeletePretty sure the only one I knew was the sleeping thing... speaking of sleep did you know that the experts claim 65 is the ideal temperature for getting a good night's sleep? I have all sorts of brain/sleep facts from my college psychology days and I love that my boys are starting to learn some of the same things in their classes (since they help job my memories!)
