Happy Friday, friends! I'm linking up with Andrea and Erika for today's favorite blog post of the week. I hope you've had a good week! Mine started off kind of rough, but it made a turnaround by Wednesday, and I'm so glad. Here are some of my favorite things from this week.
This is one of my favorite pictures of myself from childhood. Traditions during the holidays have always been a favorite of mine. I have such vivid memories of doing fun things like carving pumpkins, picking out a tree from the Christmas tree lot, going on hayrides, having friends over and sitting around a bonfire, stringing popcorn and cranberries for our tree...all of those times were so sweet and I love having the memories of that now. A lot of how we raised our sons was because of how we were raised, and how we wanted lots of traditions with them. Did you raise your kids with similar intentions? I think so much of what we do as parents has a lot to do with how we were raised.
Chloe and her sleeping habits are my favorite! I was home for two days in a row, and she stayed by my side the entire time, with much of it in my lap. I am learning that golden retrievers are wonderful emotional support dogs and can pick up on the slightest hint of the fact that something is wrong. All dogs are like this, actually, but Chloe is even more so than our others. She's super sensitive to voices and actions. I love how she loves to cuddle with people and the other dogs! She isn't Oakley's favorite, but she tolerates her now better than she did at first.
These Christmas leggings are my favorite! They're a little older and came from Walmart, but you could probably find some that are similar today. They're a sweater-like material and super cozy and warm. I've been known to sleep in them on super cold nights, though I usually just sleep in a short nightgown. I always wear them with my Hallmark Christmas movie watching hoodie. Hoodies are also my favorite! I have always loved them since I was a young girl, and I feel like this will never change since I'm 47 and still loving them as much now. I lived in comfy clothes for two days in a row, so it was nice to get dressed again on Wednesday when I went back to work.
This is one of my favorite outfits when it's cold outside. I love a poncho style sweater! I have this one in the olive green, and I also have it in navy blue, though I don't reach for that one quite as often. It would be cute with jeans and a neutral top underneath, though. I always just use the mirror at church, since I don't have a great mirror at home.
This is another favorite outfit that I wore yesterday. My pants are new! They're an olive green color and the New York & Co brand. I got them at Marshall's a few weeks ago, and I know they'll be on repeat all fall and winter long. This is the second year I've worn this sweater, one that Mom gave me for Christmas last year. It's from my favorite local boutique, The Paisley Rooster; imagine how sad I was to find out that they'd closed up shop recently! I really do miss them, though they do still have clothes available online. It's just not the same!
Seeing leaves on the ground is my favorite! I took this on Wednesday afternoon, and it made my heart so happy. I'm always sad when ours get raked in the backyard. I think the dogs love them as much as I do! They seem to like the crunchy sound they make.
Cooking for my people will always be my favorite! We had a family dinner on Monday night, and I made chicken tortilla soup. I love the entire process of cooking, starting with cleaning before I get started. Are you like this? I turn on music and set the pace so that I don't have to rush or end up feeling flustered. I'd rather start early and keep something on the stovetop on warm then have to be late and feel irritated. I've always been good with the timing of cooking a meal, but some people really struggle with that. My mom taught me well.
This soup is a family favorite.
I took this picture to share the screensaver on the television. This was my favorite this week! I think I took this on Halloween. Have I mentioned how much I still love the fall decorations I have out? It'll be hard to replace them when I put out the Christmas ones, but those make me even happier! I'm shocked that I'm not tired of these yet; I decorated for fall at the end of August.
I think the characters Chandler and Monica are my favorites. I have such Monica-like tendencies, even today and can be slightly neurotic about things like planning and cleaning. I also have to remember to have fun sometimes, since I'm more serious-minded.
Lastly, and I know I talk a lot about the dogs, but they're my favorite. The early mornings are not their favorite, but this is what they do after I let them out first thing. We all get up in the five o'clock hour, and then I feed them all at 7:15.
Did you catch my other blog posts this week? I'll link them all below.
Monday was my weekending recap.
On Tuesday, I shared about the books I read in October.
Wednesday was the day my brain failed me, and I posted twice: the Currently link party and a what's for dinner post.
Thursday was a post I titled Thursday Things.
What's something that's a favorite from your week? I'd love to hear about it! I hope you have the best weekend, friends. Thanks for reading my blog! Love to all.
I hate that so many boutiques close and go to online only. It really isn't the same. But, maybe because you know what you like from there, you would be ok on sizing, etc.?
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling better!
Have a relaxing weekend!
Love all your outfits especially the sweater with the pants that you just got. I definitely think how we were raised influences how we raised our kids. My mom was first generation American- I know that my siblings and I were raised differently than many of my friends whose grandparents were not immigrants to America. Your dog pictures are so cute- your pics get me my dog fix, lol. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteLove your cold weather outfits and can relate to so many of your faves especially raising our kids like how we grew up with the best traditions :)
ReplyDeleteAmy, I do too! I went online after I wrote about the boutique to browse, but the thing about online is that everything sells out. There are still one or two more around that I can go to, but none as convenient as that one. Thanks, my friend! I hope yours is great!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Maria! I thought I'd get hot with that turtleneck sweater, but the building was cold yesterday, so I was glad I had it on. It's interesting to hear about how people were raised and the reasoning behind that.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I can help you get your fix! 😉
Thanks, Holly! I am not surprised that you had a similar childhood. Somehow I can tell that...I guess because of what you post about your own family. I miss all of our traditions! We don't do that many together anymore. I need to bring them back!
ReplyDeleteLove your Christmas leggings they are awesome! The chicken tortilla soup looks amazing as well!
ReplyDeleteAlso - as a fellow curly haired person - love your hair, it's fab.
Happy Friday!

Love that last photo of a couch full of puppies...but that Chloe sleeping is too much! She is a mess!! Lots of fun favorites this week. Here's to a great weekend as well. To enjoying the crunchy leaves before we have to start raking them - and then they aren't so lovely!!:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Morgan! I hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jennifer! She really is such a mess. We love her antics!
ReplyDeleteI am glad your week got better!
ReplyDeleteWhat cute dogs you have. Chloe sounds especially lovely.
That soup looks so good. I love cooking at my own pace too.
Aww! I cried at that picture of Matthew Perry with the chick and duck when I saw it on Facebook. I don't usually get upset at celebrity deaths but this one really hit me. I still rewatch Friends. Usually about 5 episodes a week.
Thanks, Kim! We do love our fur babies. Two of them are our sons', but we live them equally as much. I cried over his death as well, and I am like you and don't usually get upset when celebrities or well-known people die. It's inevitable for everyone, but his got me because we loved the show so much. We are also rewatching episodes and we laugh just as much now as we did when it first came out. His life (and death) affected us because of how much we loved his character on Friends.
ReplyDeleteOh, you were so adorable! I love that photo.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, my mom was much like you are (I'm older than you, so I don't mean you're her age ;) but she loved to decorate for every holiday, including St Patrick's Day although we're Italian. Somehow, though, that gene skipped me, because now that my boys are older (one in college, one in high school) I decorate only for Christmas, and even that is pretty low key other than the usual tree, mantle, etc. I tease her that she overloaded me as a kid and now I'm rebelling lol
I've never had a cuddly, snuggly dog and really would like to have one. My husband grew up with dogs that stayed on the floor and off the furniture so I haven't experienced that (yet). I keep saying our next dog - hopefully years and years away - WILL be a cuddle-bug. We'll see :). Love your new green pants - my daughter and I were at Marshall's this weekend for the first time in ages and I walked away with a lot, but not clothing. It was really picked over and not very inspirational this time. I do prefer to shop in-person then online.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a lovely fall weekend!
