Happy Wednesday, friends! I am living my best life right now. I've eaten dinner, cleaned the kitchen, and am sitting watching the cutest Hallmark movie from this weekend in my favorite cozy clothes: fleece pajama pants and my Hallmark Christmas movie sweatshirt. Did I mention that I'm home alone in a quiet house? If you don't know this about me, know that this little fact about me means that I am in Heaven! I love being alone; it's how I recharge my batteries. (The adorable movie I'm watching is Field Day that aired last weekend on the Hallmark Channel.)
And yes, I love Christmas Hallmark movies this much, so much so that my best friend's husband bought Missy and me matching sweatshirts that say that.
I hope you've been having a good week! I thought I'd share some random things in no particular order on this glorious day.
I don't talk about our sons all that much here these days, because I really do try to respect their private and adult lives. For that reason, I won't mention specifics, but my heart nearly explodes anytime one of them talks to me for advice. One son in particular called me on his way home yesterday and we talked for thirty minutes about a difficult circumstance he's walking through right now. On one hand, I love that he talks to me about things like this, but I hate to see him suffer and struggle. When we hung up, I made him dinner as he finished driving home, and I started praying for him. As much as I want to give him advice and wise counsel, I want God's will for his life most. That's what my prayer was, because it was about a girl. It's hard seeing their growing pains as adults!
Does anyone love bookshelves as much as me? One of my favorite things to do is to rearrange everything on top of and inside of these shelves. I love changing up everything for the seasons, and this little area gets the same treatment. Also, a sidenote: see the globe on top of the shelf? For a while last spring, I had a little plant stand sitting in the living room that I moved this globe to the top of. One day the dogs were playing, and one of them knocked the stand over. The globe broke, but Todd made a temporary repair on it for the time being.
While I don't mind things on the countertops that aren't in the way of me prepping food, I don't like for things to be sitting on the counter tops. If I had all the money in the world, I would love to redo our kitchen. I'd pick new kitchen cabinets and new countertops that were white. While I'm on that subject, I'd probably have the entire house repainted on the interior. Do you do this? Dream up future projects? It's fun to do, but I have to be careful lest I become discontent. I don't want to be like that! I try to be content at all times, which is why I love moving things around and repurposing them.
Well, I'm about to go grab a quick snack before it gets too late. Thanks for reading my blog, friends. Love to all!
I have been accused of hiding things, too. I don't like stuff out and I really don't like many knick knacks. I wish I had more bookshelves. Our kitchen, dining room, and living room are all next on the list. The living room just requires flooring and paint, same with dining room I guess. They all lead into each other so I want the same paint color and some widening of doorways to make it look more spacious. Patience, Amy. I am enjoying following some IG accounts about caring for your home even if it isn't the latest and greatest in finishes.
ReplyDeleteFun post!
Oh this was the most cheerful little post yet! Could almost feel like I was there watching Hallmark with you :) Pure Bliss and you are such a great Mama XO
ReplyDeleteI hope my kids always call me and want to talk when they get older. haha I LOVE bookshelves and think it's fun to rearrange them too! I love your home decor.
ReplyDeleteAmy, I am so glad I'm not alone in one of my toxic traits! 🤣 About the knick-knacks, sometimes I love them and sometimes I hate them. I guess I like them enough to keep them, but so many of them are sentimental for me, because they always made for inexpensive gifts for me when the boys were growing up. That's amazing that you're remodeling your house bit by bit! I'd also love to know of some favorite Instagram accounts that you follow. I'm always looking for inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Holly! It was such a cute movie! I haven't alone a lot recently, so I always miss it when I don't have that time to myself. If you haven't seen that movie, you should check it out! It was really good, and I loved the friendship theme that was woven throughout.
ReplyDeleteJen, you made me laugh, but I really do love that they all do this. Boys never outgrow needing encouragement from their moms. Thanks for that, friend!
ReplyDeleteMy boys are both married and I see them on family dinner night, but I also call them once a week and say "this is my once-a-week-need-to-hear-your-voice mom call" and they just laugh. I've come to the conclusion that our kids will never think of us as often as we think of them. But that's ok. As long as they still answer when I call :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I am probably the opposite of you with hiding things. I like to see my stuff, as long as it's in its proper place. Many might call my house cluttered, I guess. But things are usually in the designated spot.
And I love your sweatshirt! I need one that says I love reality tv :) That's my thing :)
I am the same way with "hiding" things, and it drives Michael crazy! Sometimes his things disappear into a drawer or cabinet, and I have to tell him where to find it. I got rid of a lot of books with our move this summer. I don't really re-read things so now I mainly have cookbooks, travel guides, and some special Christian books/Bibles. Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I re-read books, I think of them as comfort books and they transport me back to a time that was special for one reason or another. I have a couple of book series from my childhood and I re-read those as well. I love to have clear countertops. The ones in our new kitchen are white and we have an under-counter fridge so I love it when the countertop is completely clear.
ReplyDeleteOh my - outlets must be covered at all times! Exposed ones are well....exposed:) And I won't let that happen. Glad someone else understands! I love the globe on top of your bookcase. I have to admit, I probably would put it right back there, too. LOL! So nice to see you living your best life!!:)
ReplyDeleteMy family says I hide things and move things constantly.. I say I'm cleaning up and keeping everything organized. I hate clutter!
ReplyDeleteOk. Where to begin?? How have our paths not crossed in this wonderful world of blogland? I loved this post and relate to so much of what you wrote. I love my alone time! I do much the same as you. I eat something, clean up, and get cozy on the couch! I love rearranging things in my home, and I read my favorite books two or even three times. I also love it when my adult children are near, and we speak on the phone daily. I am so happy to have met you and look forward to many more cozy visits!
ReplyDeleteDebbie, I love that you talk to your boys weekly, even though you also see them once a week. I do the same with Drew, since he's my only one that is out of the house. We never talk too long, I just like to check in or I'll call with a funny story, like I did last night.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny that we're the opposite on this, but that does make sense. We can still be friends! I also love reality tv! Thanks to the fluke that it started out as, it was revolutionary and I've loved it since it came out!
Thanks, Tanya! It really does drive my husband bonkers. I am always trying to remember where I put such and such. I have found that a lot of people never read a book more than one time. This is so foreign to me! I've been like this since I was a young girl. It's funny how we all work!
ReplyDeletePamela, yes! I completely understand what you're talking about and I feel the exact same. I am sure you do love having your new countertops nice and clutter free! I would probably be the same.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, I am so glad I'm not alone in my quirks! 🤣 You totally get me, my friend!
ReplyDeleteJoanne, YES! You totally understand me!
ReplyDeleteBillie Jo, isn't that true? It's funny that our paths have never crossed. I look forward to reading more of your blog too! It's funny that we're so much alike. I love it that so many people get my quirky side! I hope you've had a good day!
