Friday Favorites, 7.14.23.

Happy Friday, friends! I'm linking up with Andrea and Erika for today's favorite blog post of the week. How has your week been? Mine has been good, and I'm looking forward to seeing my sweet Dad today. About him—this is what our Fridays in the summer looked like eleven years ago.

This was back when he was still able to drive, but even so, I would always drive my Suburban and he would ride shotgun so that he could navigate me around our downtown. Fun fact about Dad—he has always been fascinated with trains and has taken many train trips. We have an Amtrak station here in Memphis, and the boys used to love going to visit there with him on one of our Fridays. This particular Friday you're looking at, we'd gone into the Amtrak station as usual and to the little museum next door, when a man asked if we'd like to tour the tunnel that ran underground. And of course we did! At one time they'd had plans to make that an additional set of train tracks, but it never happened. After we did this, the boys wanted to go put pennies on the tracks so that the train would flatten them. I can't tell you how many times we did this!

Puppy cuddles this week have been my favorite! Chloe is adjusting really well into our home, and this was me trying to read blogs on Monday morning while she was wanted to be near me. Another favorite from the week happened right after this—my sister Debi called me, and we talked for almost an hour and a half! It had been way too long since we'd had a good, long conversation to catch up. I miss my sisters!

I've been using this giant 40 oz water bottle everyday to ensure that I'm drinking plenty of water each day. I have a secret about how I get in all that I do. (I fill this up at least three times everyday.)

It's these water enhancer drops. The top one is from Walmart, and it's our favorite. My favorite flavor from Kroger is pineapple coconut, but they've been out of it lately. Todd loves the black cherry and I use it when I don't have anything else. It makes me feel like I'm drinking something other than just water, because when all you drink is water, it becomes boring. These drops help tremendously!

I'm finishing up reading the book of Proverbs, which is one of my favorite books to read in the Bible. It's one of the books that could honestly be read every month, because there are 31 chapters, so it's easy to read a chapter a day. It's so full of wisdom! Check out Chloe being jealous and wanting in my lap. I finally had to bring my Bible in here by my chair so that she could have some of my attention. Oh, the puppy stage and having to watch them every second!

I made one of the boys' favorite meals last night, Dorito chicken casserole. You can always tell how good it was judging by how much is leftover. Apparently, this was excellent and hit the spot.

I made something entirely different for Todd and myself, Amy's Greek bowls. You can click on that link to see her recipe. I love this dish, but I'm not sure if it's a favorite for Todd. He's not a big cucumber fan, but the last time he ate some. He skipped them this time around, but he ate all of what he fixed. I used a rotisserie chicken to make things easier. Speaking of groceries, I placed a small grocery order yesterday that Noah went to pick up for me. When I tried to tell them he was on his way, the app had signed me out. I guess it had crashed? Anyway, they couldn't give him a receipt for the order they brought out, which contained everything I ordered. Twenty minutes after he was back home, they emailed me saying how sorry they were that my order had been canceled and that I hadn't been charged for anything. Is it bad that I'm not telling them that I received my order? I'm considering it a bonus for being a huge supporter of them. (Not really, but monetarily I am.)

Lastly, Wednesday at the pool was my favorite morning this week. It was good to be back! It's been a few weeks since I last swam with my mom-in-love. And friends, that is about it for me this week.

For a bit of blog business and because many of you plan your blogs out in advance, I thought I would share some dates and prompts with you. The Share 4 Somethings post always happens on the last Saturday of every month. The prompts always stay the same on this post: we share some things we loved, learned, read, and ate that month. This month, that date falls on July 29th. Additionally, Currently takes place on the first Wednesday of each month. On Wednesday August the 2nd, we'll be sharing what we're currently loving, looking forward to, starting, thinking, and wearing.

Did you catch my other blog posts this week?

On Monday I shared a weekend recap and a little catch-up about my sons.

Tuesday was a post I titled Tuesday Talking, where I used some writing prompts that I found on Pinterest.

On Wednesday I shared about a new recipe I made this week. It was so good, and you should definitely check it out.

And Thursday I shared what a day in the life looks like for me at this stage in life.

Tell me something great about your week! I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for reading my blog, friends. Love to all!

  1. Aww, your puppy is cute. Also liked the throwback picture. What a treasure trove of memories you and the boys have made with your dad! What a great legacy. I hope that if I'm fortunate enough to be a grandma someday, I'll pour into my grandkids' lives like your dad did with your boys. My week was uneventful but we did get to see Jacob unexpectedly yesterday which was nice. Have a great weekend!

  2. Ok I think we need the Dorito Chicken Casserole recipe stat- ha! Hope you will share soon :) I love your water bottle and I find having a larger one helps me to get extra water in for sure too.

  3. I wish we had a pool! I used to love going to the city pool as a kid and then living in apartments that always had pools. Now I don't even own a bathing suit!

I recently had a glitch with Walmart pick up too. I had already picked up my order and about 30 minutes later they sent me a text that my order was ready. I hope they weren't looking for me!

  4. You can do the Greek bowl with roasted onions, mushrooms, zucchini, too. Tom likes it better when I add some roasted veg, but he is not a huge fan. I love cucumbers and tomatoes and it really pays off to make the homemade tzatziki. Mine is much more runny than yours in the pic. I also use crumbled feta on top. My sister is on a big chickpea kick and those would be good, too. Anyway, it's not for everyone, but I love mediterranean flavors so much. Thanks for the shout out.
I hope your day is good with your Dad today and those memories are so nice.

  5. Thanks, Maria! I want to be that same kind of grandparent, if I ever get to be one. I love that you unexpectedly got to see Jacob this week! I know that you loved that. I got to see Drew twice this week- WHAT?! I was so surprised by that!

  6. Holly, I will share it here soon! I didn't think anyone would want it, since it's not very healthy. I only make it now on a rare occasion, but you can tell how much they loved it! Isn't that weird about a bigger bottle? I have found the same thing to be true!

  7. Debbie, I am sure you would love that! How sad to love going to the pool to not even owning a swim suit now. I would be so sad about that! So when you went to pick up your Walmart order, did they have it ready for you? That's crazy!

  8. Amy, I'll have to try this with roasted veggies the next time. He would like it better, I'm guessing. I loved it like I ate it last night! I tried making my own tzatziki sauce, but I never could get it right. I like the store bought better, believe it or not! I am not a fan of Greek yogurt, and mine had that really strong flavor, even though I kept playing around with it to try to get it right. Thanks, friend!

  9. Chloe is too cute! I like the picture of her staring at you while you're doing your Bible reading! How nice you were able to chat with your sister! My sister doesn't call very often but when she does it always ends up being a 1-2 hour chat.

  10. Thanks for clarifying the currently/ share 4 somethings for me! I always forget which one changes and which one stays the same. I wrote it down this time so hopefully that will help. I think any dish that is empty is definitely a sign of a good meal! Those excursions with your dad and the boys sound so fun! My boys have lots of flattened coins from the trains near us too.

  12. I love the throwback photo and hearing about the wonderful times with your dad. So many special memories! I have a water bottle that I keep and use at work but I never thought to have one at home to keep track of how much I drink. Silly me! Anyway, you have inspired me to do the same. Thanks, Jennifer😊

  13. I hope you had a lovely time with your dad.
That water bottle looks huge, it sounds like you've been drinking plenty.
I love the sound of the Dorito Chicken casserole, I think it would go down well here.
