Happy Friday, friends! I'm linking up with Andrea and Erika for today's favorite blog post. How has your week been? I have a confession—I am so glad today is Friday and that it's a long weekend for us. I had a good week, overall, but I was SO TIRED all week because of not being able to sleep at night. Things finally turned around for me on Wednesday night and I was able to sleep. Praise! Sleep is my favorite.
I do apologize in advance, because part of this will be redundant. Beautiful days are my favorite! This was last Friday right before I walked into work. I love seeing the sunlight on winter days, and I love how the power lines make the shape of a cross.
It's my favorite thing to get there early in the morning. If you know me at all, this won't surprise you about me. I like to have some time to gather my thoughts and to get a game plan in place for the day. One thing I have learned lately is that though we do the same thing each day, which is reinforce reading with students at risk for falling behind, our day can quickly change. There are certain things we have to do each week, like progress monitoring, so when we miss a day or two (like when we had snow days recently), it negatively effects our schedule and the students. That being said, it's like we can't have a schedule for each grade on certain days because our days are likely to change at the drop of a hat. So, basically every day is a brand new day in which we'll have to go to plan b, c, or d. It's maddening and can be overwhelming for someone like me, but I am learning to be flexible. And even if I feel like that, I still love the job. I love what we're doing and that we're helping them strengthen skills being taught in their classrooms.
Lunch provided by our cafeteria staff was my favorite! This happened last Friday and was called a Super Bowl lunch. How sweet were they to do this for us? You should have seen the spread!
Even though this playlist pictured below says 80's, did you know that the Indigo Girls were my favorite band in the 90's? I still love their music, though I haven't heard anything new from them in a long time. I'm sure it's there, I just haven't gone looking. Their song Galileo was one of my favorites.
Last Saturday's pedicure was definitely a favorite!
Having pretty flowers in the house is always a favorite for me. I loved these Valentine's flowers my hubby picked out for me. I love that they're not traditional.
I read a favorite book this week! I'll share about it more at the end of the month when I talk about the books I read, but Fiona Ferris' books are always my favorite. I love books full of practical tips.
Even though I didn't care much one way or another about the Super Bowl, I did enjoy hearing the national anthem. Chris Stapleton and seeing this on the television were both my favorite.
This day of devotional was one of my favorites.
This light up necklace was my favorite! At the beginning of February, I received a gift bag with a note inside saying I'd been hugged. It was full of things like candy and snacks, and this necklace was inside. I, in turn, had to "hug" someone else to keep it going. It was sweet and fun to participate in.
Lastly, I love getting sweet messages like this on the dry erase board that hangs behind me. Sweet words and gestures like this are my favorite, and this particular one made my day! I love the students we see each day and I pray for them all on my way to school every morning. I've already heard some really sad stories from several of them.
I'll wrap this up with that last one. Did you catch all of my blog posts this week? Here they are below.
Monday was a weekend recap with the Hello Monday link up ladies.
Tuesday was all about things I love that are ways I take care of myself.
Wednesday was what's working for me in my life right now.
Thursday was a double post day with Thankful Thursday and Fashion Files.
And for a little blog business, I want to remind you that I'm hosting the Share 4 Somethings link party on Saturday, February 25th. This is not original to me, but it's something that Heather Gerwing began and handed over to me for the unforeseeable future. I hope you'll join us! The link will go live on Saturday January 28th and will stay open for three weeks. We'll be sharing things we loved, read, learned, and ate in January. Those prompts will remain the same all year long and this will always be on the last Saturday of every month. I hope you join us!
Thanks for reading my blog, friends! I hope you have a great weekend. Love to all!
I am sorry you haven't slept well! I am dragging, too. And, this is why teachers go to bed at 9! You just have to in order to have the energy and patience required and sleep is so important. Are you taking one Goli Ashwagahnda? I highly recommend!
ReplyDeleteI will DM you back - I was already asleep!
Yeah for a pedicure AND the Indigo Girls :) Have a great weekend Jennifer!
ReplyDeleteAmy, I totally get it now! Although I did that before I started working full time again. 🤣 I am not taking that, but I've taken Melatonin three nights in a row. Is it better than that? Oops! I hope that didn't wake you up. I forgot about our time difference!
ReplyDeleteRight, Holly?! I hope you have a great day, my friend!
ReplyDeleteNotes from students are sweet. I have not been the recipient of many since I'm a sub and don't see the kids day in and day out but I see sweet notes from students that the kids write to their teachers. Speaking of teachers/ subs- I had the longest three days in a row and was SO GLAD that I could just decide to not work today which is what I did. I slept in this morning and I feel so refreshed. I am impressed with those who get up and go to work every morning!! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteLove a good 80’s mix, having fresh flowers in the house and yay pedicure!! Happy Weekend love!
ReplyDeleteYay for finally getting to sleep and enjoying a nice 3 day weekend. I found that in any classroom type of situation flexibility really is key... which I both loved and hated because I am such a planner. We live in a pretty rural and low income area and I heard so many stories that just broke my heart (like kids who had determined by 2nd grade that their life goal was to live off the government or one little girl who told me she lived with grandma because mom tried to drown her as a baby!).
ReplyDeleteOkay, that note on the board is the sweetest thing. How kind. Glad you finally got some rest and hope you get some more and enjoy the long weekend friend!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how important sleep becomes in this phase of life when it isn't a guarantee to have a good night of sleep! What a sweet note on the white board. I'm going to check out that author. Enjoy the long weekend!
ReplyDeleteI really hope that your sleep will improve. I had a couple of dodgy nights last week and then the next day I felt so exhausted. It's so sad to hear about the struggles some students face. I've heard some heartbreaking stories from my little ones over the years. Your students are lucky to have you and they must truly appreciate you. That note on the whiteboard is just so precious. Have a wonderful weekend xx
ReplyDeleteMaria, that is so nice that you get to pick and choose! Trust me, I have already found that there are days that I just want to stay at home. I miss being here more! 🤣
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andrea! And me too! I love all those things.
ReplyDeleteJoanna, those stories are so hard to hear!
ReplyDeleteTanya, you are so right! I think you'll enjoy her books as much as I do. I love how light and easy they are to read!
ReplyDeleteMarilyn, isn't it? I loved it and appreciated it so much.
ReplyDeleteRuth, thank you! I was able to catch up on some rest over the long weekend and have a plan to try and sleep a bit later starting tomorrow. We'll see if it changes things for me. You are so right about hearing such sad stories...thank you for those sweet words!
