Happy Monday, friends! I'm linking up with Holly and Sarah today for this weekend recap. How was your weekend? Mine was really good.
I always start with Friday during the day, because Dad comes over each week and we spend the afternoon together. In case you don't know this (I've noticed a few new readers lately!), Dad is 91 and we've been having Fridays together for over twenty-five years. This started when I first got married, when we would meet for lunch at least twice a week, because I worked full time. This has adapted to our schedules over the years and as we became a homeschooling family and Dad retired, he would drive over each week, then we'd go out for lunch and would usually take an afternoon excursion. I totally credit him with helping me in the homeschooling phase of their growing up years! He no longer drives, so my stepmom drops him off and I either take him home, or she comes and gets him if she's at a friend's house who lives nearby.
All that being said, he and I went to get Mexican food for lunch that day, then we went to the library. I haven't been inside our library in about a year! I know that's shocking. I no longer read physical books, but only on my Kindle these days, so I no longer have the need to go. After Friday, I decided to start going weekly again, because I have missed being there. I got some great books, one of which I have already read.
I have already finished Christmas on Nantucket, which is a beautiful coffee table book.
Also, for anyone new here, I went there back in September. This past weekend was the Winter Stroll, which happens every year on the weekend after Thanksgiving. (Not Thanksgiving weekend.) I will go there someday for this! The thing I've noticed about the island of Nantucket is that the more time you spend away from having visited, the more you want to go back. I would love to start traveling more. Todd and I were talking about this last week. I don't want to wait until we're too old to enjoy ourselves! I have several places in mind that I'd love to visit with my guy. ❤❤
After I took Dad home, I came home and got into my cozy Christmas pajamas, had leftovers for dinner and watched this adorable movie on Netflix. Todd worked that night, so I was home alone with the pups.
Have you seen The Noel Diary? It's so good! Who doesn't love Justin Hartley?
I was up early Saturday, and per my Saturday morning tradition, I watched this great movie.
This was so good! I've said it several times already this season, but Hallmark has upped their movie game about a hundred percent. I loved seeing actual Rockettes performing during a lot of the scenes. After the movie and having my two cups of coffee with Christmas flavored creamer, I went upstairs to dress and went to my church to help deck the halls there. This is something the worship ministry is in charge of each year, so it takes an army to decorate a church as big as ours. This was so much fun and because it was postponed to Saturday this year, we had more help than ever before. Here are a few pictures.
I LOVE seeing our church decorated for Christmas! How cool is the picture I took from high up in the bird's nest, as I lovingly refer to the audio/visual booth as? I volunteered up there on Sunday morning.
After we finished, I met my best friend at her house, and we went to her aunt's house to do some elf work. 😉
Aunt Sherrye loves all things royal, so isn't her tree topper the cutest? We went to do this because she was in NYC with her best friend and we wanted to surprise her for when she got home last night. I had to document our-elves (See what I did there?), so that we could send it to her when she got home.
I was home for the rest of the day after that. Jonah, Noah and I rearranged Noah's room for him really quickly, then they left to go pick up our dinner for us. We ordered cheese pizza from Costco, which is always the best! I watched a couple more movies that night, rounding out my weekend.
Both were really good! I was up bright and early for church Sunday morning, and afterward I came home a bit to work on my table for Tablescapes that's taking place tomorrow night. That's an annual women's event that kicks off our Christmas season that's always a blast. Christy Nockels is our musical guest this year and I'm so excited to see all the tables. I'll actually go up and decorate my own this afternoon, because it's looking to be a very busy week. I'm working, but I'm also busy every night and on my day off. AND, I'm going out of town for the day on Friday with my best friend for our annual Christmas shopping date. Tis the season! It's full of loads of fun things.
Todd was home last night with me, so we ate dinner and I read most of the night, while he watched tv. I also listened to our choir's Christmas music, because I have a special tech rehearsal and mic check tonight, so I am making sure to be extra prepared. I'll be posting everyday this week, so I hope you come back each day to check in! Tomorrow I'll be sharing one of my favorite posts of the year, my annual "Come on in" and Christmas house tour. On Wednesday is the monthly Currently link that I shared about on Friday. You can click here to check that out and to read the month's prompts. I hope to see you back!
Tell me something good from your weekend! I'd love to hear from you! Thanks for reading my blog, friends. Love to all!
Your weekend sounds nice! Your church is so big and pretty. Our church is pretty but on a much smaller scale. It's nice that you helped to decorate it. You will have to share a picture of your table when you get it done. I'm sure it will look great ;) Have a wonderful Monday!
ReplyDeleteWhat a full weekend! Your church is big! I am enjoying Hallmark movies more this year, too. I think they are less cheesy. I have to be in the right mood. I have a couple of actors I like better than others, too. I am so glad you went back in the library. It's just a nice atmosphere. I only read physical books because my Kindle broke years ago and I didn't want to be tempted to buy the books because it is just so easy. I have saved so much money from the library. I just got Christmas in Vermont by Anita Hughes. I hope you have a great week, friend!
ReplyDeleteIt was, Maria! Our church is huge. We live in the South, which is home of the mega churches. Ours isn't anywhere near the largest- the biggest one in our area is Bellevue, which probably has close to 10,000 (or more) members. They have multiple services each week and every time you go to an event there, it feels like you're hiking, it takes so long to get there. I will definitely share some pictures! ❤
ReplyDeleteAmy, I am the same way with the movies and there are some actors I like way better than others. If I see one I don't care for as much, I usually skip the movie. Who knew being a Hallmark movie snob was a thing? I am, for sure! We have the most lovely library with a used bookstore right inside it as well. I loved seeing it decorated for Christmas! I will definitely be going back for more books like the one I've already read. I love reading about different places. I agree that spending money on a Kindle is so tempting...I do buy books on occasion, but usually only when they're $4 or less, except when I preorder a favorite author.
ReplyDeleteThanks, friend! I hope yours is good as well!
What a great weekend!I love that you have lunch with your dad so often. That's so sweet. I love that royal tree topper! so fun. I just added some of those books to my Goodreads Christmas book list. It's a growing list. I'm hoping to watch some holiday movies soon. Usually, I finally get to do that once school is out. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jen! I love the royal tree topper as well...I have always loved a crown. Ha! My list is so long that I'll never get to them all this year...I had to quit a book last night after getting 25% of the way through it, but it was terrible and I just could not keep reading. I hope you get to watch some movies soon! I hope you have a great week as well!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun weekend!! I have been reading a few Christmas books set on Nantucket during Stroll season too and I promised myself that one year I am going to make it there... even though I bet it's got to be pretty cold most years.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree on Hallmark- A Holiday Spectacular is my new favorite- so different from any other movie and loved that it was a period piece- the fashion, the love story, oh it had everything I am obsessed with! Love your search- so grand and so nice you helped to decorate!
ReplyDeleteWow! You had a full weekend! First off - I would love to go back in time and have lunch with my dad every week. My dad has been gone for 10 years now and not a day goes by that I don't wish I could call him about something. What a special gift you have.
ReplyDeleteSecond - you are a fast reader! I used to be, but then Netflix.... :) I'm trying to get back to choosing my book, over the tv.
We've only watched one Christmas movie so far, and it was the Candace Cameron movie on GAF. I need to step it up! I think it helps to keep that spirit going through the season.
Have a great day! I'm looking forward to hearing about your week :)
Your relationship with your dad just makes me miss my daddy so much! He was just the best man I know!
ReplyDeleteThat movie with Justin in it is by Richard Paul Evans - whom I have most of his Christmas books... I need to look & see if I have that one!
I loved the Rockettes' movie. I wasn't sure I would, but I really did. We've watched so many this year, both new and old!
ReplyDeleteThat crown tree topper is darling! I really enjoyed the Hallmark Rockettes movie and it made me so excited to go see the show in person. I am enjoying the Hallmark movies as well, and have watched some on Great American Family and a few on Lifetime and UPTV as well. I have that movie from Netflix on my list, but haven't watched yet. I hope tomorrow night goes well! Looks like a fun event & wish I was able to go.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great weekend! I love hearing about your Friday's with your dad. I'm keeping a list of your recommended movies and need to get busy watching some of them. The Rockette's movie is at the top of the list. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great weekend! I also feel as if Hallmark has upped their movie game this year. I really liked "The Noel Diary" and will have to check out those other two recommendations. That is just the sweetest thing about you and your Dad's Friday date tradition. Have a great start to your week!
ReplyDeleteJoanne, that's a great bucket list trip. I am sure it is cold, but I think that makes it even more festive! For instance, today it is 70 and rainy, which is having the complete opposite effect on me. I'm rolling my eyes.
ReplyDeleteHolly, I think it's my new favorite as well! I just love any and all dancing and I would love to see the Rockettes someday.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, I do love and cherish our Fridays! I know I will miss them someday. I am a fast reader! I have been ever since I was a young girl. I also retain what I read pretty well, which is usually not the case when someone reads quickly. It's hard to make that choice- a show or a book, but I make time for both. I have quit three books this month! I'm hoping the one I started last night is the change for this month.
ReplyDeleteRebecca Jo, I know you must miss your daddy! There's nothing quite like that relationship. Love and hugs, friend!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that was a book! Now I need to read it!
I did too, Cathy! There have been some great ones this year.
ReplyDeleteI think so too, Marilyn! I wish you could have come to this tonight...that would have been fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tanya! ❤ I hope you like the movie as much as I did!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ali! It was a fun weekend...lots of mine are usually pretty slow, but December is always different and festive. Thanks for stopping by!
